PINK SLIME ground meat manufacturers are allowed to use 5% of pink slime without having to list it in the ingredients. The name used in the meat industry is lean finely textured beef (LFTB) or boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT). Pink slime has been used as pet food and later approved for human consumption. 70 percent of ground beef sold in U.S. supermarkets contains pink slime. It is produced by processing animal trimmings & by-products with a centrifuge. Heat liquefies the fat. The recovered meat material is processed, heated, treated with ammonia producing liver toxic ammonium hydroxide.
